American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 6/6/03)--American Baptist
National Ministries will sponsor a Habitat for Humanity house in Valdosta,
Ga., during the week of June 6-13 as part of the Jimmy Carter Work Project
2003. The project calls for 77 houses to be constructed from the ground up
in one week in Anniston, Ala., and LaGrange and Valdosta, Ga.

Daily progress reports with photos will be posted on National Ministries'
Web site. Fifteen American Baptists, including five National Ministries
staff members, are traveling to Georgia to work on the construction.

"National Ministries has long been committed to intervening on behalf of
those with housing needs," said the Rev. Dr. Aidsand F. Wright-Riggins III,
executive director of National Ministries, who is part of the American
Baptist team.  "Home ownership positively impacts the lives of the working
poor, offering the opportunity for economic stability.	We are proud to be a
partner with Habitat for Humanity in this important ministry."

Last summer Wright-Riggins joined a 45-member National Council of Churches
of Christ delegation in the Jimmy Carter Work Project in Durban, South
Africa.

Habitat for Humanity works to eliminate poverty housing and
homelessness--one family at a time. Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and
his wife, Rosalynn, who have a longstanding association with Habitat, will
participate again this year.  The Carters have led annual weeklong work
projects, building houses around the world, since 1984.
