	South Wisconsin re-elects Meyer

	Dr. Ronald E. Meyer was re-elected to his fourth term as
district president during the 50th regular convention of the South
Wisconsin District, June 8-10 at Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon.
Meyer, 60, was elected on the first ballot. He has served as president
since 1994.

	Also elected were:

	* Rev. John Struve, Milwaukee, first vice president;

	* Rev. John Wille, Tomah, second vice president;

	* Rev. Randy Raasch, Cedarburg, third vice president;

	* Rev. Frederick Bischoff, Waterford, fourth vice president; and

	* Rev. John Kelling, Brown Deer, secretary.

	The theme of the convention was "An Unforgettable God." Speaker
Dr. Thomas Zehnder of Williamsburg, Va., provided a "strong focus on
God's gracious remembrance of us in Christ Jesus" in his essay "There Is
Trouble in Remembering," according to President Meyer.

	Delegates reaffirmed the Synod's Constitution concerning the
practices of unionism and syncretism, resolving that members consult
local pastors, circuit counselors and the district and national
praesidiums "concerning potentially disputable situations" and "deal
with one another in a forthright, loving and faithful manner."

	Delegates asked district members and congregations "to recommit
themselves to sharing and supporting the proclamation of Christ
crucified to any and all people" and encouraged congregations with
schools "to purposefully develop plans to recruit and enroll unchurched
children."

	Delegates also voted to memorialize the Synod in convention to
change its Constitution and Bylaws "so that there is a mechanism by
which the president of Synod is held accountable to the Synod apart from
the Synod in convention."

	Another resolution adopted seeks to amend Article VI of the LCMS
Constitution by adding "In the case of pastors, only men may be so
regularly called" to Section 3, and "In the case of pastors, only males
may be so received" to Section 6.

	Delegates also voted to "commend the Rev. Wallace Schulz for his
25 years of faithful service as associate Lutheran Hour speaker" and
"commend the Int'l Lutheran Laymen's League for its ongoing efforts in
spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
