	Texas elects Linderman

	Delegates to the 56th convention of the Texas District, June
12-15 in Corpus Christi, elected Rev. James Linderman to his first full
term as district president. Linderman, 67, was elected on the first
ballot.

	Linderman, former first vice president of the district, was
appointed to complete the unexpired term of Dr. Gerald Kieschnick after
Kieschnick was elected LCMS president. Linderman began serving as
district president in August 2001.

	All four of the district's vice presidents were re-elected,
although their rankings changed. Elected were:

	* Rev. David Rohde, Wilson, first vice president;

	* Dr. Robert Preece, Dallas, second vice president;

	* Rev. David Schroder, Austin, third vice president; and

	* Rev. Donald Black, Houston, fourth vice president.

	The convention welcomed home Synod President Gerald Kieschnick,
who shared his "One Mission, One Message, One People" initiative.
Kieschnick also served as guest speaker at the convention's closing
worship service.

	Rev. William Diekelman, president of the Oklahoma District,
served as keynote speaker. The theme of the convention was "Joy
Abounding Across Texas."

	Plans for the celebration of the Texas District's 100th
anniversary celebration in 2006 were introduced to the convention
through a series of vignettes.

	During business sessions, delegates resolved:

	* to memorialize the Synod to reinstate full funding for the
Hispanic Institute of Theology.

	* to make outreach and evangelism a priority of the district.

	* to memorialize the Synod to revise its Constitution and Bylaws
regarding the organizational structure of the Synod.

	* to request the Commission on Theology and Church Relations to
clarify the distinction between "altar and pulpit fellowship" and
prayer.

	* that all LCMS members be encouraged to maintain proper respect
and honor for the Synod's called and elected church leaders, remembering
them regularly in prayer.
