	Minnesota South re-elects Seitz

At the LCMS Minnesota South District convention, June 12-14 in
St. Paul, delegates re-elected Dr. Lane R. Seitz to his fifth three-year
term as district president.

Seitz, 56, was elected on the second ballot.

Dr. Dean Nadasdy, Woodbury, Minn., was newly elected first vice
president, succeeding Rev. Peter Meier of Mayer, whom delegates elected
as third vice president. Dr. Larry Griffin, Janesville, was newly
elected second vice president, and Rev. Evan Schiller, Holland, was
re-elected fourth vice president.

The convention passed several resolutions that pertain to recent
controversy in the Synod.

One of those asks the International Lutheran Laymens League
(Intl LLL) to review its policies about Intl LLL employees serving on
the Synods praesidium.

The whereas of that resolution says that the Intl LLLs
decision ... to suspend the Rev. Dr. Wallace Schulz as Lutheran Hour
radio speaker has been seen by many as a political statement, whether
advertent or inadvertent, in the controversy surrounding Atlantic
District President David Benke.

Another resolution notes the binding nature of opinions of the
Synods Commission on Constitutional Matters (CCM) and asks the 2004
LCMS convention to review a CCM opinion and the role of the CCM in the
life and work of the Synod.

The resolution says that a CCM opinion that the LCMS
Constitution and Bylaws do not allow or contemplate the expulsion of a
member of the Synod on the basis of action taken with the full knowledge
and approval of the appropriate ecclesiastical supervisor has caused
concern and been the subject of much discussion within the Synod.

A separate resolution passed by Minnesota South delegates
requests that CCM members be elected by LCMS conventions instead of the
present procedure of being appointed by the Synod president.

Delegates also passed a resolution supporting Synod leaders.

Delegates also took action to affirm the districts commitment
to outreach in southern Minnesota.

The conventions theme, Its Time to Fish, also is the name of
a district campaign to raise $3 million over the next three years for
outreach to the unchurched and growing numbers of ethnic groups in
southern Minnesota.
