	Rocky Mountain elects
	Golter district president

Rev. Randy L. Golter was elected on the third ballot as the new
president of the LCMS Rocky Mountain District during the district
convention June 19-20 in Golden, Colo.

Golter, pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Highlands Ranch,
Colo., succeeds Rev. Roger Krause as district president. Krause had
served the maximum number of terms allowed under district bylaws.

Also elected were Rev. Allen D. Anderson of Boulder, Colo.,
first vice president; Rev. Roger Schlechte, Denver, second vice
president; Rev. Douglas K. Escue, Santa Fe, N.M., third vice president;
and Rev. Gary G. Trickey, Ogden, Utah, fourth vice president.

Delegates passed a resolution encouraging the Synod to provide
supplemental funds for veterans of the cross (retired professional
church workers) and their spouses who receive benefits from the old
pension plan of the Synod and who often face financial hardships.

That resolution also called for a Veterans of the Cross Sunday
in the Synod to encourage support for those retired workers and their
spouses.

Another resolution asks the district to establish an education
center for training laypeople and pastors for mission and ministry to
Hispanic people. The resolution points to the growing number of Hispanic
people in the district and the need to reach them with the Gospel.

Delegates also adopted a resolution that encourages extensive
attendance at a district evangelism conference this fall titled
Conversations of Grace, which also was the convention theme.

The Rocky Mountain District includes all of Colorado, New Mexico
and Utah, and reaches into parts of Texas, Arizona and Nebraska.
