	Michael re-elected
	by acclamation
	in Florida-Georgia

	Rev. Gerhard Michael Jr. was re-elected by acclamation to his
third term as president of the LCMS Florida-Georgia District during the
district convention June 20-22 in Orlando.

	Also re-elected to their third terms were Rev. James Guelzow,
Tampa, Fla., first vice president, and Rev. T. Kent Fuqua, Stockbridge,
Ga., second vice president.

	Among resolutions, delegates encouraged the Synod to establish
separate overall governing boards for the two seminaries and the 10
colleges and universities, rather than have the current single Board for
Higher Education/Concordia University System (CUS) board for both. The
resolution also calls for more local representatives on each CUS and
seminary board of regents.

	Another resolution implements a planned-giving component in the
districts current capital campaign. The goal of the component is to
establish gifts that total $5 million annually over the next three years
to support congregations and other ministries and especially mission
outreach.

	Other resolutions that Florida-Georgia delegates passed:

	* support the Pentecost 2000+ initiative to expand
cross-cultural ministries in the Synod;

	* encourage congregations to give strong consideration to
providing sabbatical time to professional [church] workers; and

	* encourage whole-life stewardship that would increase
proportionate giving by individuals to congregations, congregations to
districts and the district to the Synod.
