	Hoesman re-elected in Michigan

Rev. C. William Hoesman was re-elected on the first ballot to
his third term as president of the LCMS Michigan District during the
district convention June 22-25 in Ann Arbor.

Four regional vice presidents were elected -- Rev. Wayne H.
Wentzel, Grand Blanc; Rev. David P.E. Maier, Lansing; Rev. Michael J.
Roth, Eastpoint; and Dr. K. Frank Graves, Brighton.

Delegates adopted a resolution to "encourage churches and their
workers to be zealous in the proclamation of Jesus in a spirit of unity
and to curb all infighting." Its first "whereas" notes that "over the
last several decades the LCMS has had a public history of conflict and
acrimony."

They passed a resolution supporting Concordia University, Ann
Arbor, which has had financial problems. The resolution asks
congregations for prayers and "initial and ongoing gifts" for the
university and asks each congregation to appoint an "ambassador" to
promote it.

Among other resolutions adopted were to:

	* approve a fund drive for the next three years in connection
with the district's 125th anniversary; and

	* "recognize the significant contributions made to ministries of
congregations by their circuits" and "encourage churches to find even
more ways to work together in their respective circuits."
