	Northern Illinois re-elects Ameiss

	Rev. William H. Ameiss was re-elected to his third term as
president of the Northern Illinois District when it met in convention
June 27-29 in Schaumburg, Ill. Ameiss was elected on the first ballot.

	Also elected were:

	* Rev. Dan Gilbert, Yorkville, Ill., first vice president;

	* Rev. Gerald Schalk, Fox River Grove, Ill., second vice
president;

	* Rev. David Speerbrecker, Homewood, Ill., third vice president;
and

	* Rev. Julio Loza, Chicago, fourth vice president.

	Delegates affirmed a new mission statement and critical targets
developed by the board of directors through a broad, grass-roots study
process. District efforts over the next three years will be aimed at
assisting congregations to develop in four areas -- congregational
ministries, leadership development, building partnerships and mission
multiplication.

	Resolutions directed at Concordia University, River Forest,
Ill., express support for the school and urge congregations and
individuals to become partners in financially supporting the school, as
well as the Concordia University System's "For the Sake of the Church"
campaign. Encouragement was given to creating an endowed chair at the
university that would allow reinstatement of the undergraduate deaconess
training program.

	Resolutions directed to the 2004 Synod convention urge study and
implementation of a new system of convention representation, based on
communicant membership, that does not preclude as voting delegates "any
member of Synod."
