ABCUSA: LaRue Loughhead, Well-Known Pastor, Dies

American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 7/10/03)--The Rev. Dr.
LaRue A. Loughhead, prominent American Baptist pastor and minister emeritus
of Calvary Baptist Church in Denver, Colo., died July 1 while traveling in
Norway.  He was 76.  

Ordained in 1950, he served churches in Hudson Falls, N.Y., and St. Louis,
Mo., before beginning a 23-year pastorate at Calvary Baptist in Denver.  The
Rev. Dr. Mary A. Hulst, current senior pastor at Calvary, described
Loughhead as "a truly outstanding pastor and an even greater person."

Loughhead retired in 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Bettie; condolences for the family may be sent
to her at 3393 S. Dallas Ct., Denver, CO 80231-4755.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12 at Calvary
Baptist Church, 6500 E. Girard, Denver.  In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be made to the Calvary Memorial Fund or to Metro CareRing,
1100 E. 18th Ave., Denver, CO.
