The International Foundation for the Children of Single
Parents is gearing up for Fathers' Day (marked on August 8 in
Taiwan) by sponsoring a "model single parents" program. It aims
to increase recognition and support for single parent homes from
society at large.
The foundation says that model single parents will be selected
from among those nominated by grassroots level political leaders,
social service and welfare organizations, and schools.
Candidates should be raising sons and daughters in a single
parent home. The children should be free of police record, and
either children or parents should have made positive
contributions to their home, neighborhood, school or the general
social environment. Single mothers and fathers from all social
sectors can be nominated. The foundation will select ten women
and ten men for special recognition as "model single parents."
A summer writing contest for children of single parents is
also underway.	Children compete in 6 age categories (three
elementary school levels, plus junior high school, senior high &
vocational school, and college).
Entries for the literary contest and nominations for the model
parent's award are due by July 28th at the foundation's office in
Taipei.
