Archbishop of Canterbury's visit to West Africa

[ACNS source: Lambeth Palace] The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan
Williams, will be visiting three countries in West Africa from 23-31
July in the course of a visit to the Anglican Church there. Dr Williams
will be visiting Ghana, Sierra Leone and Gambia during the seven-day
stay.

The visit is at the invitation of the Primate of the Anglican Church of
the Province of West Africa, the Most Revd Robert Okine. The
Archbishop's primary purpose is to encourage, support and stand
alongside the Anglican Communities in all three countries. He will meet
leaders of Church, State and Traditional societies, as well as the
people and clergy of 12 dioceses.

Dr Williams will be accompanied by Mrs Jane Williams, Dr Herman Browne,
the Archbishop's Secretary for Anglican Communion Affairs, the Revd
Jonathan Jennings, the Archbishop's Press Secretary and Canon James
Rosenthal, Director of Communications for the Anglican Communion.
