	Fall conference to focus on
	'church planting with child care'

Christ the Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alpharetta, Ga., the
Synod's first mission congregation started in conjunction with an Open
Arms child-care ministry, will host a training conference on "church
planting with childcare" Sept. 18-20.

Titled "Alpharetta Revisited -- Christ the Shepherd After 13
Years," the conference will include a tour of the 13 year-old Open Arms
facility and sessions on a variety of topics.

Topics to be covered include a description of the
church-planting-with-childcare concept, a step-by-step guide on the
process, strategies for assuring quality and success, resources for
finding help, and ideas for getting started.

Christ the Shepherd Pastor Kevin Elseroad and Bonnie Elseroad,
director of Our Shepherd's Open Arms Child Development Center, will be
available to talk with participants and answer questions.

The Alpharetta church and childcare center are "pioneers in the
concept of church planting with childcare ministry," according to Martin
Barlau, executive director of the Open Arms Institute, based in
Loveland, Colo.

The ministry is "continuing stronger than ever after 13 years,"
Barlau said, and is in the process of completing its third construction
phase with an office, meeting and fellowship center that will connect a
new sanctuary with the original childcare facility.

Registration is $385 for two nights or $455 for three nights,
and includes conference materials, five meals and lodging at the Hilton
Garden Inn in Alpharetta. For two people from the same ministry who are
sharing a room, the total registration is $590 for two nights, or $660
for three nights.

To request a registration form, or for more information, contact
Barlau at (970) 988-6064 or openarms cc@juno.com .
