United Methodists will host a fundraising telethon for mission Oct. 12 in
Nashville, Tenn.

The live event at Ryman Auditorium, the original home of the Grand Ole Opry,
will be taped and broadcast from 6 to 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Dec. 6
on the Inspiration Network (INSP). Featured entertainers include Willie
Nelson, Shirley Jones and Judy Collins.

Sponsored by the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries, the telethon
will focus on stories of mission and church development in 11 countries since
1989. Those countries are Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Senegal, Cameroon, Laos,
Vietnam, Cambodia, Nepal, Mongolia and Honduras.

The rapid growth of these ministries has created a critical need for funding,
according to the Rev. S T Kimbrough, a board executive. The telethon's goal
is to raise $2.5 million to address such needs as training for pastors and
lay people, programs for women and children, and the building of churches.

Tickets are available for the live event through the Ryman box office or
Ticketmaster outlets. For viewing information or to make a donation, call
(866) 217-5433. Viewing information for the Dec. 6 broadcast also is
available at www.insp.com. Videos or DVDs of the telethon will be available
after Nov. 1. Copies can be reserved by calling (866) 238-0459 by Nov. 25.
