	'Ablaze!' includes children's component

LCMS World Mission is encouraging children to get involved in
the "Ablaze!" initiative, and has produced special materials and devised
a contest for Lutheran schools.

A May mailing from LCMS World Mission to LCMS day schools,
Sunday schools and vacation Bible schools introduced the "Sparkler"
program that gives students opportunities to "adopt" one or more mission
projects for a year, six months or less than six months.

Those who adopt a project are encouraged to learn about the
project and the country in which it is located, pray for and write to
the missionaries who serve there, and offer contributions to help
support the work.

Materials are available for schools involved in the "Sparkler"
program, including a 17-by-22-inch world map, bookmarks, stickers,
pencils, balloons, offering boxes and envelopes, and information on
countries and projects. A number of children's resources are available
online, such as "Mission Friends" magazine, audio interviews with
missionaries, mission photos, and a dozen articles with ideas for
involving children in mission.

Schools that adopt a mission project for a year are eligible to
compete with schools of similar enrollment for a "missionary party,"
hosted by an LCMS missionary, which includes refreshments and an award.

Children's resources are intended to give students "a better
understanding of what mission is and how important it is for the
furthering of Christ's kingdom," said Jan Meyer, project administrator
for LCMS World Mission Support. "We're hoping that this experience might
sow some seeds for future missionaries."

Materials and pledge forms for the "Sparklers" program are
available online at www.lcmsworldmission.org/resources/

Mission Ideas, Projects and Resources."
