Landmesser Now Heads Ecumenical Body's Administration, Finance

Leora E. Landmesser Elected to Head NCC Administration and Finance

October 9, 2003, NEW YORK CITY - Leora E. Landmesser Sept. 29 was elected by
the National Council of Churches Executive Board to serve as the Councils
Associate General Secretary for Administration and Finance. Ms. Landmesser
is a seasoned financial officer with experience in a wide range of
organizations, including the United Methodist Church, United Nations,
Rockefeller Brothers Fund and Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

We are pleased that management of NCC finances and of administrative
matters will be in the hands of a person with such a strong professional
background, said NCC General Secretary Bob Edgar. She also brings a deep
understanding of our mission. Her work will strengthen the NCC and thus will
help us make a difference for peace, justice and unity.

Before coming to the NCC, Ms. Landmesser was president of Leland
International, LLC, a global financial consulting firm that she founded in
1998. Previously she was senior investment officer of The United Nations
Joint Staff Pension Fund, serving in that post from 1993-1998.

 From 1987 to 1993 she held several positions in the foundation community,
for the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Earlier she was a member of the World
Ministries. During more than 16 years with the board, she rose to become the
World Divisions assistant treasurer.

Ms. Landmesser is a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Wyckoff, N.J.,
where she serves on the finance, stewardship and mission committees. Among
other volunteer activities, she is a trustee of The Interchurch Center in
New York City.

The National Council of Churches is the leading ecumenical organization in
the United States.  Its 36 Protestant, Orthodox and Anglican member
communions (denominations) comprise 50 million adherents in 140,000 local
congregations nationwide.

Council programs include education and leadership ministries, Bible
translation, interfaith relations, environmental justice, faith and order,
church renewal, public policy research and advocacy, research and
communication, and work to reduce poverty.  The NCCs 2002-2003 expense
budget was $5.7 million.
