American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 10/10/03)--The Rev. Charles
"Chuck" Armstrong, East Area minister and program coordinator for outdoor
ministries for American Baptist Churches of Ohio since 1994, has been named
associate executive director of Discipleship and Education for National
Ministries, American Baptist Churches USA. He begins in the position on Dec.
1.

Armstrong will lead and empower National Ministries' staff to advocate for
and provide strategic leadership for American Baptists in discipleship and
ministries of Christian education. He will link to program networks at
national, regional and local levels; represent National Ministries in
national and ecumenical circles; provide training, consultation and
motivational presentations; and participate in the overall direction of
National Ministries through its Leadership Team.

According to his pastor, Dr. Roger Alber, Armstrong is known throughout Ohio
as a "disciple-maker" and has been a leader throughout his professional life
in Christian education, youth ministry, outdoor ministries, pastoral
ministry and administration. Prior to his current tenure in the state,
Armstrong served in Michigan as associate minister of Christian Education,
minister of Outdoor Ministries and North Area minister for American Baptist
Churches of Michigan.

Armstrong also served in local congregations as pastor of First Baptist
Church, Sandusky, Ohio; director of Christian Education and Youth for First
Baptist Church, Salem, Ohio; and youth director for North Baptist Church,
Columbus, Ohio.

In making the appointment, Dr. Aidsand F. Wright-Riggins III, executive
director of National Ministries, said:	"The Rev. Armstrong brings a strong
and committed background to ministries of discipleship and education. As
the committee interacted with Chuck, it became clear to us that we were not
simply choosing a candidate but participating with God in a unique call to
ministry for every American Baptist church to become a disciple-making
church. We are excited about seeing what God will do through him."

Armstrong received the M.Div. degree in pastoral ministry with an emphasis
in Christian education from Ashland Theological Seminary, Ashland, Ohio, and
a B.A. in secondary education from Judson College, Elgin, Ill.
