NCC Annual General Assembly to Meet Nov. 4-6, Jackson, Miss.

Installation of Christian Methodist Episcopal Bishop Thomas L. Hoyt, Jr., as
National Council of Churches President for 2004-2005; action on social
issues, including proposals that the NCC join boycotts of Taco Bell and the
Mt. Olive Pickle companies, and an emphasis on children and youth will be
among highlights of the National Council of Churches' 2003 annual General
Assembly, meeting Nov. 4-6 in Jackson, Miss.

The 280-member General Assembly is the highest legislative body of the
nations leading ecumenical body, through which 36 U.S. denominations
comprising 50 million members work to address peoples spiritual and social
needs. This meeting marks the end of one four-year program cycle and the
beginning of the next.

The Assembly will elect new leaders for 2004-2007 and thank those completing
their service -- especially Elenie K. Huszagh, a Greek Orthodox laywoman who
has served as NCC President in 2002-2003. A resident potter - Ky Johnston,
who teaches at Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss. -- will reflect
the Assemblys theme "In the Potters Hands.
