ABCUSA: Ruth Fredrikson Dies

American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 10/20/03)--Ruth Fredrikson,
who served with her husband, Roger, in pastorates in Kansas and South Dakota
and in numerous other ministries, died Oct. 17 at age 79.

The Rev. Dr. Roger Fredrikson, who has held many American Baptist and
ecumenical leadership positions, was president of the (then) American
Baptist Convention in 1970-71.	The Fredriksons ministered at First Baptist
Church in Ottawa, Kans. (1954-1959); First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls,
S.D. (1959-1975); and First Baptist Church in Wichita, Kans. (1975-1987).  

In their congregational and community work the Fredriksons emphasized
renewal, small group and lay witness, outreach to former prisoners and to
those in addiction treatment, and refugee resettlement.  Beginning in 1987
they held renewal conferences for churches and pastors across the U.S.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. CDT Wednesday, Oct. 22, at
First Baptist Church, 1401 S. Covell Ave., Sioux Falls, S.D. 

Condolences for the Fredrikson family may be mailed to Dr. Roger Fredrikson,
Trail Ridge Retirement Community, 3408 W. Ralph Rogers Rd., Apt. C10, Sioux
Falls, SD 57108-2626.  Memorial contributions in the name of Ruth Fredrikson
and marked for Habitat For Humanity; University of Sioux Falls funding
scholarships; the American Baptist Assembly at Green Lake, Wis.; and/or
Ottawa University may be mailed to the attention of Larry Evans at First
Baptist Church, 1401 S. Covell Ave., Sioux Falls, SD, 57105.
