Presbyterian U.N. Office to offer D.Min seminar

January term course to focus on globalization

by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE - The Presbyterian United Nations Office and Columbia Theological
Seminary are joining forces for the second year in a row to sponsor a Doctor
of Ministry course in New York City.

The theme of the January 12-23, 2004 course - which is also open to
qualified M.Div students - is "Globalization and the Church." It will be
taught by Columbia Christian ethics professor Mark Douglas.

The course is designed to help students make theological sense of one
of today's most frequently bandied-about buzzwords. In a prospectus for the
course, Douglas writes: "Students will grapple with the impact of
globalization from a biblical, theological and ethical perspective and how
they can face some of the challenges facing the world today as religious
leaders."

The course will include presentations by and dialogue with
theologians, denominational and ecumenical leaders, United Nations and
non-governmental (NGO) staff, and diplomats from around the world.

For more information and application forms, contact the Presbyterian
United Nations Office - which is part of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program
in the Congregational Ministries Division - by phone at 212-697-4568; by
email at seminars@presbyun.org; or on the web at www.pcusa.org/peacemaking/un
