Thailand, Dies

American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 10/29/03)--Janet Erickson
Morgan, former American Baptist International Ministries missionary in Burma
and Thailand, died Oct. 26 at age 74. 

She and her husband, Claiborne Erickson, were appointed to missionary
service in 1953 by the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society.  After an
initial period of waiting for approval of visas to work in India, they were
reassigned to Burma in 1955.  There they were involved in university student
work at Moulmein and in theological education at the Divinity School at
Insein (Rangoon). The Ericksons remained in Burma until 1966, when the
government asked all missionary personnel to leave. 

Reassigned to Chiang Mai, Thailand, the Ericksons served at the Community
Christian Church.  They resigned in 1973. 

Janet Erickson later earned a nursing degree and worked in a nursing home
and as a hospice patient care coordinator in Walla Walla, Wash. 

Claiborne Erickson died in 1990, and the following year Janet Erickson
married Paul Morgan.  

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Nov. 2 at Calvary Baptist Church,
Salem, Oreg., where she had been an active member.

Surviving are her husband, three sons, two daughters, two step-children, and
18 grandchildren.  Messages of condolence may be sent to Paul Morgan at 142
