American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 1/12/04)--A volunteer
English teacher is urgently needed to serve for two years at the Sammuk
Christian Academy, a boarding school for grades 5 through 12 in Thailand,
according to International Ministries' office of Volunteers in Global
Mission.  Wichai Kiatsrichart, chairman of the school's board, is requesting
a volunteer to teach English and also coach basketball. The Sammuk Christian
Academy has a new gymnasium and regularly participates in basketball
tournaments with area schools. 

Costs for round-trip airfare and two months of language study will be
assumed by Sammuk Christian Academy. The academy also will provide a
furnished room, meals and a generous monthly stipend of 15,000 baht ($375). 

Since the school year begins on May 1, the volunteer should arrive in
Thailand by March 1 for language study. 

"This volunteer service is a good opportunity for a young person to visit
many places in Thailand, observe mission work, become well-acquainted with
people of another culture, and carry out a meaningful ministry," said the
Rev. Richard Worley, the academy's founder and a retired American Baptist
missionary who maintains an active volunteer role with the school.   

The prospective volunteer must be a college graduate and a Christian with a
strong witness. He or she must also be willing to work with young people
outside of regular teaching hours.  American Baptist volunteers have been
active partners in the ministry and educational goals of Sammuk for several
years.
