RUETER NAMED TRANSITIONAL REGIONAL MINISTER IN THE SOUTHWEST REGION
FT. WORTH, TX, January 7, 2004 - R. W. "Bob" Rueter has been named 
Transitional Regional Minister for the Christian Church (Disciples of 
Christ) in the Southwest. He will begin his new position on January 9,

DISCIPLES JOIN ECUMENICAL EFFORT TO STRENGTHEN CHRISTIAN WITNESS IN THE WORLD
Fifty church leaders from all major Christian families 
(Evangelical/Pentecostal, Catholic, Orthodox, historic Racial/Ethnic, 
historic Protestant) came together with representatives from a number of 
national Christian organizations January 7-9, to work toward launching a 
new inter-confessional entity called, Christian Churches Together in the 
U.S.A.

The purpose of CCT is "to enable churches and national Christian 
organizations to grow closer together in Christ in order to strengthen our 
Christian witness in the world."  Disciples, through the Council on 
Christian Unity, have already voted to participate in this ecumenical

VETERAN CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER TO TAKE PART IN CELEBRATION
LEXINGTON, KY - On Sunday, January 18 a group of local churches under the 
leadership of the Disciples for the Dream Committee will host its 
fourteenth annual worship service as part of the commemoration of Dr. 
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Guest preacher for the service will be the Rev. Fred L. Shuttleworth, 
pastor of the Greater New Light Baptist Church, Cincinnati, and a veteran 
of the Birmingham, Alabama, Civil Rights Movement of the sixties. For the
