Pentecost Offering resources mailed

Churches will collect funds for children and youth on May 30

by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE - Congregational resources for the Presbyterian Church (USA)'s
Pentecost Offering have been mailed and will arrive at churches this month.

The offering, which this year will be received on May 30, supports local and
national programs for youth and young adults and children at risk.
Participating congregations keep 40 percent of their offering and 60 percent
is used for General Assembly-level ministries.

More than $1 million was received by churches last year in the Pentecost
Offering, one of four annual special offerings of the PC(USA).

The Pentecost Offering packets include promotional materials, resources for
worship and special events, and materials for children and youth.

New for 2004 are three hymns, a children's sermon, and suggestions for
involving children and youth in the offering. Other features include
children's activities, worship bulletins for children and youth, and "Kid's
Kountdown" - a fun way for families to participate in the offering at home.

This year's theme, "Together with Christ We Will Be Given What God Has
Promised," is taken from Romans 8:17.

"The offering materials explain that scripture tells us we are heirs to the
promises of God through Jesus Christ," said Billie Healy, an associate in the
Mission Education and Promotion office. "For some of God's children, the
reality of neglect, poverty, and abuse keep them from experiencing these
promises. As Christians, we are called to bring God's healing love and to
care for these children."

All Pentecost Offering materials are free. Additional copies of individual
resources can be ordered by phone at (800) 524-2612, or downloaded from the
offering's Web site, www.pcusa.org/pentecost.

For additional information, call Billie Healy at (888) 728-7228, ext. 5689,
or Teresa Mader at (888) 728-7228, ext. 5121.
