American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 3/30/04)--Staff members of
American Baptist National Ministries and International Ministries were
honored last week for excellence in media and design during presentation of
the DeRose-Hinkhouse Awards at the 75th anniversary meeting of the Religion
Communicators Council in Birmingham, Ala.

Staff members of National Ministries' Communication and Publishing Ministry
Center who were honored are: 

Awards of Excellence:  Special Print Material - Danny Ellison
("Encounter/Encuentro" promotional flyer for National Gathering of American
Baptist Youth); and Color Photography - Obed Arango ("Mother Earth" -
photographs in article in American Baptists In Mission). 

Awards of Merit: National Newsletter - Laura Alden and Fran Homer (Mission In
America - May/June, Sept/Oct 2003); Graphic Design, Overall Publication -
Danny Ellison (The Christian Citizen - Vol. 3, 2003 - "Ministries among
Immigrant and Refugee Groups"); Graphic Design, Overall Publication - Danny
Ellison (Mission In America - Nov/Dec 2003); Documentary Video - Victoria
Goff  ("The Promise of Freedom"); and Print Advertising - Danny Ellison (bus
shelter ad - "God Never Goes on Vacation").

Also honored with an Award of Merit ("Other Print Media") was International
Ministries' Mission Education/Communications Team, under the leadership of
Francisco Litardo, for White Cross Magazine, a joint project of International
Ministries and National Ministries.
 
The Religion Communicators Council (RCC), founded in 1929, is an
international interfaith association of religion communicators at work in
print and electronic communication, marketing and in public relations.	The
DeRose-Hinkhouse Memorial Awards are presented annually to members of the RCC
who demonstrate excellence in religion communications and public relations.
Entries, which are compared with the best communication projects of religion
communication professionals across the country, are judged by a panel of
professional religion and secular communicators.
