ABCUSA: Joyce Scott, Former Missionary in India, Dies

American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 3/30/04)--The Rev. Dr. Joyce
M. Scott, former American Baptist International Ministries missionary in
India, died March 17 in Dover, Pa.  She was 80.  

Joyce Scott and her husband, the Rev. Dr. Bill Scott, came to work for the
American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in 1965 after serving 15 years in
India with other mission organizations.  Their work in India with
International Ministries spanned 22 years, and included establishing the
organization India Bible Literature for which Joyce served as associate
general director.

A trained medical technician, Joyce Scott also trained Indian technicians and
nurses through her work in the Clough Memorial Hospital.  She began the
Literacy India Trust, which has educated thousands of Indian students and
teachers.  Throughout their years in India the Scotts worked closely with the
Telegu Baptist Convention.  Joyce was ordained by that convention in October
1990.

In retirement the Scotts settled in Dover, Pa., but continued to travel to
India to be involved in ministry there and participated for several years as
associates in world mission. 

Joyce Scott is survived by her husband, four children and one brother.
