American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 4/26/04)--The Rev. Larry R.
Bailey, a former member of the American Baptist Churches of the Great Rivers
Region staff, died April 9 after a long illness.

Bailey joined the Great Rivers staff in 1988, and most recently had
ministered to churches in the region's Area IV. Before that he had pastored
churches in Frankfort, Ind.; Mt. Vernon, Ill.; and Fredericktown, Ohio. He
retired in 2000 after more than 37 years of ministry.

"Larry had a great love for Jesus Christ, and it was reflected in his passion
for evangelism," noted ABC of the Great Rivers Region Executive Minister the
Rev. Dr. Dwight Stinnett. Bailey had been active in evangelism ministries in
the Great Rivers region and on the national American Baptist Evangelism Team.

The Rev. Dr. David Laubach, National Ministries' associate executive director
of New Churches, Evangelism and Transformation Ministries, said, "Larry was a
faithful member of the American Baptist Evangelism Team during all of his
years with the Great Rivers Region. He exemplified the heart of ABET as he
stirred up the gifts of evangelism in his region and challenged churches and
leaders in ABCUSA to keep evangelism at the forefront of mission."

Condolences may be sent to his wife, Arlene, and their three children at 620
Downing Dr., Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
