NEWS FROM THE 2004 GENERAL BOARD MEETING
April 16-20, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Administrative
Committee and General Board met in Indianapolis, Ind. A complete summary
of news from the meeting will soon be available online at
http://www.disciples.org/. A printed summary will also be mailed to
all congregations the first week of May. Highlights are provided below.

GENERAL BOARD: SEARCH COMMITTEE FOR NEXT GENERAL MINISTER AND PRESIDENT
CONFIRMED
The Administrative Committee elected, and by unanimous vote, the
General Board confirmed the search committee that will select the next
General Minister and President.

Previously, during the Saturday morning session, the Administrative
Committee approved Business Item GB-04-0368 that amended the standing
rules of the General Board (page 30 of The Design). This action will
allow the search committee to adopt the Executive Search Model as a part
of the process for selecting the next General Minister and President.

JUDGE CALLS FOR MEDIATION, TURNS DOWN DIP FINANCING, ORDERS APPRAISALS
OF NBA PROPERTIES; NBA LEADERS OPTIMISTIC
(SAN ANTONIO, April 23, 2004) - National Benevolent Association
officials announced today that the Honorable Judge Ronald B. King took
three important actions during court proceedings Thursday in the U.S.
Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas.

First, the judge ordered parts of the 117-year-old nonprofit's
bankruptcy case moved to mediation. Second, the judge turned down
NBA's request for approval of up to $50 million in
debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing. Finally, he ordered appraisals of
a number of NBA properties be made by an independent third party. For

NATIONAL HISPANIC ASSEMBLY UPDATE
(PLEASE NOTE CORRECT EVENT DATES) The 12th Assembly of the National
Hispanic and Bilingual Fellowship of the Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ) in the United States and Canada will take place July 8-11, 2004
at the Disciples Center in San Diego, CA. To download registration
