"O Give Thanks for the Wonderful Things God has Done." Under this banner
Taiwan's Quakers celebrated 50 years of mission, evangelism and growth under
the leadership of local clergy and foreign missionaries. As hymns of
thanksgiving were sung, several of those who gathered at the Chinese Cultural
University on April 24th were moved to tears.

Dr. Charles E. Devol returned to Taiwan and addressed the assembly on the
topic of "Offering Thanks." He described how God had opened the door for
gospel ministry in Taiwan and equipped the Quakers with a spirit of unity. As
the Quakers go into the future, they should continue with this mission vision
and courageously reach out to the entire world.

The Rev. Mark Engel was present as a representative of the Eastern American
Quaker Mission. He said he was encouraged by the growth of the church in
Taiwan, which, as a small mustard seed, grows into a great shrub. He
encouraged Taiwan's church to continue laboring for God during their next
fifty years as they have in the past.

The Rev. Lin Ho-ming, convener of Taiwan's Quaker Alliance, spoke on
"Purposeful Direction". He encouraged his hearers with the example of the
foreign missionaries who spent their lives serving in Taiwan. He emphasized
the humility and respect they showed as they cooperated with local
evangelists. He noted that among the foreign servants of the church these
past
fifty years were many who spoke local languages fluently. Their contribution
glorified God and left a beautiful testimony. He encouraged today's
Christians
and church leaders to follow in their footsteps.
