Media advisory: the 216th General Assembly

by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE The 216th General Assembly of the 2.5 million-member
Presbyterian Church (USA) is just one month away.

The General Assembly - the national legislative session of the
denomination - will take place from June 26-July 3 in Richmond, VA. Most
Assembly events will occur in the Richmond Convention Center.

A full-service Communication Center will be available to accredited
media covering the Assembly, including work stations, telephones, modem
connections and video monitors. Accredited media will also have a special
seating section on the floor of the Assembly and will be able to question
Assembly newsmakers at regularly scheduled press conferences throughout the
Assembly. Only accredited media will be able to ask questions during press
conferences.

A comprehensive Media Guide for the Assembly is also available to all
accredited media upon request. The Media Guide contains the complete schedule
of the Assembly, a topical index of all items of business before the Assembly
and how the Assembly will process that business; profiles of church and
Assembly leaders and candidates for moderator and stated clerk; background
information about the PC(USA); information about the General Assembly
Communication Center and its staff; and background papers on key issues being
considered by the Assembly.

To be accredited, media representatives must first register for the
General Assembly. To register, contact the General Assembly Meeting Service
by telephone at 888-728-7228, ext. 2417, by email at
gameetingservice@ctr.pcusa.org, or online at
www.pcusa.org/ga216/registration.htm. The registration fee for church-related
media is $50. There is no registration fee for media not related to the
Presbyterian Church (USA).

Communications Center, Room E10B of the Richmond Convention Center, beginning
at Noon on Friday, June 25.

Communication in Louisville and the Rev. Chuck Proudfoot, a longtime Assembly
hand from Payson, AZ, will be available in the General Assembly Communication
Center to assist media in their coverage of the General Assembly. I will be
available as well.

We hope to see you in Richmond for the 216th General Assembly of the
