American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 6/3/04)--The American
Baptist Churches USA World Relief Office has designated a $5,000 One Great
Hour of Sharing emergency grant for use by Church World Service in meeting a
range of needs in Haiti and the Dominican Republic following recent heavy
flooding.

The death toll in those two countries currently stands at about 1,500, with
an equal number of persons reported missing in the vicinity of Mapou, Haiti.

Church World Service, a long-time partner of American Baptist Churches USA in
relief and development ministries, is working with other relief agencies on
site to coordinate delivery of food, medicine and other supplies.

American Baptists wishing to support relief efforts in Haiti and the
Dominican Republic can do so through their church's monthly report of mission
support, designating contributions "Haiti/DR Floods." Those wishing to
contribute online can do so by accessing the "American Baptist Missions" or
"Give Now" pages of the ABCUSA Web site--www.abc-usa.org.
