22 Advisers to Provide Professional Expertise to LWF Council
Council to Meet in Geneva, September 1-8

GENEVA, 23 June 2004 (LWI) - Twenty-two representatives from
Lutheran World Federation (LWF) member churches worldwide have
accepted to serve as advisers to the new LWF Council. The
appointment of the ordained and lay individuals from 21 LWF
member churches has been approved by the Executive Committee on
behalf of the Council.

The Council, composed of the President, Treasurer, and 48
persons appointed by the Assembly, approved members of the
Program and Standing Committees at its first meeting, 31 July-2
August 2003 in Winnipeg, Canada. A final list of advisers
proposed by member churches was not concluded at that time.

In addition to Council members, advisers provide professional
competence and expertise to the seven Program Committees of the
LWF Council. Advisers are full members, with vote, of their
respective committees. They have voice but no vote in Council
sessions.

The Council is the LWF governing body that meets annually. The
Assembly, the highest decision-making body, convenes every six
years. The Tenth Assembly elected the current Council on 31 July
2003. This year's Council meeting will take place September 1-8
in Geneva, Switzerland. (197 words)
