Presbyterian bazaar

Bustling exhibit hall has something for every GA participant

by Erin Cox-Holmes

RICHMOND, June 26 One visitor called it the whole Presbyterian Church
(USA) in one room.

The Exhibit Hall of the 216th General Assembly is a swirling kaleidoscopic
display of resources, services and, well, neat stuff.

Its the place to learn about Assembly entities and meet representatives of a
broad range of PC(USA)-related organizations. It takes at least five trips
through the Exhibit Hall to see it all.

The Presbyterian place to meet and greet: Use your first cruise through the
Exhibit Hall to catch up with old friends and make new connections. The most
important things on exhibit are relationships.

Nab some freebies: Savvy Assembly-goers know that its wise to hit the
Exhibit Hall early to snatch up the best stuff. Some exhibitors lure
passers-by to linger by appealing to their stomachs with bowls of candy and
other snacks. Others are more creative. This years knick-knacks include
water bottles, CD openers, fans, key chains, Post-Its, paper clips and pens.
Sure bets to take home to the kids: the Mission Service Recruitment frisbees,
bendies, refrigerator poetry and squeezable brains from Health ministries.

The Resources: Fill your tote bag to overflowing with the huge array of
brochures, books, videos and other resources interpreting the work of the
exhibitors. On this trip through the hall, note the colorful banners and
electronic displays that give life to the facts and figures of ministry.

The People: Presenting the exhibits are Presbyterian people of faith who
radiate professionalism and passion for the ministries they represent. They
are all eager to explain their work. From the Knox Fellowship for Evangelism
to Living Waters of the World, Presbyterian mission is represented here.

The Vendors: Cokesbury. Presbyterian Publishing Corporation. The Enough for
Everyone Global Marketplace. Specialty vendors. The exhibit hall is a grand
bazaar. Books, liturgical art, free-trade coffee, jewelry, carved figures:
Any extra space in your suitcase will soon be filled.

The exhibit hall opens at 9:30 every morning except Sunday, when it opens at
noon. It closes at 6 p.m. The final day for exhibits is Wednesday. The
Global Marketplace and Cokesbury Bookstore will be open on Thursday.

The 200 exhibitors are listed in the Exhibit Hall Guide, which also includes
a schedule of special activities. These include book signings and events
sponsored by Presbyterians Pro-Life, Presbyterian Peace Fellowship,
Presbyterians for Restoring Creation and many more.
