American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 8/9/04)--Dr. G. Thomas
Halbrooks, president of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, Rochester,
N.Y., has announced that he will retire July 1, 2005.

Under his leadership the American Baptist-related school is undertaking a
newly adopted five-year strategic plan aimed at positioning the school for
financial stability and growth by the year 2009.

Halbrooks, 64, said his retirement next year "will enable a new president to
come in during the early stages of the plan, to build on current
relationships, to cultivate new long-term relationships, to see the plan
through to its conclusion."

"President Halbrooks has led this institution through one of the most
tumultuous periods in our history," said Dr. Nancy Abrams Gaess, chair of the
CRCDS Board of Trustees. "We have benefited greatly from his inspirational
vision, his outstanding knowledge and skill, and his wise, steadfast and
graceful guidance throughout a challenging time."

Halbrooks also serves CRCDS as professor of church history.

Previously he was dean of faculty and professor of church history at Baptist
Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va., and professor of church history at
Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Halbrooks holds an A.B degree
from Samford University, an M.Div. degree from Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary and a Ph.D. degree from Emory University.

Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, founded in 1817, is one of ten
seminaries related to American Baptist Churches USA through National
Ministries.
