The Anglican Communion Office to have Deputy Secretary General

The Revd Canon John L. Peterson, Secretary General of the Anglican
Consultative Council, today announced the appointment of the Revd Canon
Gregory K Cameron as the Council's Deputy Secretary General.

In making the appointment, Canon Peterson said, "The burdens associated
with the work of the Anglican Communion Office have grown enormously
over recent years, and in consultation with the Archbishop of
Canterbury, the Chair of the Anglican Consultative Council and my
successor, the Revd Canon Kenneth Kearon, we felt together that Gregory
would bring a wealth of experience and insight to the work of the
Anglican Communion Office as it goes through a period of transition."

Canon Cameron has been Director of Ecumenical Affairs and Studies at the
Anglican Communion Office for the last eighteen months, and Secretary of
the Lambeth Commission on Communion, in addition to staffing all
international ecumenical dialogues of the Anglican Consultative Council.
Before taking up this post, he worked in the Church in Wales, and in
educational ministry.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd Rowan Williams, said that he
was delighted that Canon Cameron could undertake the new role and assist
the new Secretary General over a crucial period in the life of the
Anglican Communion. "I am sure that he will offer to Canon Kearon the
wholehearted support that he has been able to give to Canon Peterson,"
Archbishop Rowan said.

The Revd Canon Kenneth Kearon, Secretary General elect, added, "I am
very pleased that Gregory has agreed to undertake this role. His proven
ability and wide experience will be a wonderful asset to the Anglican
Communion Office and a tremendous help to me as I take up my duties. I
congratulate him on his appointment and look forward to working with him
in the future".

Canon Gregory Cameron's appointment is effective immediately.
