Disciples Morn Loss of Reed

The Rev. Walter Reed, III, died Sunday, October 10, 2004, at the age of 52.

Reed was the senior pastor of First Christian Church in Clarksville, Tenn.,
since the fall of 2003. Reed served a number of congregations including First
Christian Church in Hannibal, Mo., from 1993 until 2000. 

He served the church on numerous committees and boards in local communities
and in the regions in which he served. He has also been a member of the
General Board of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was a former
member of the board of trustees of Culver-Stockton College, Canton, Mo. He
was currently a member of the Council on Christian Unity board and its
liaison on the Week of Compassion Committee. He was a regular columnist for a
number of years for "The Disciple" magazine.

He is survived by his wife, Leanne and by a brother, Warren Douglas Reed of
San Diego, Calif.

Services will be held in the sanctuary of First Christian Church in Hannibal
on Thursday, October 14, at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Stephen V. Cranford, former
regional minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of
Mid-America and the Rev. James Spear, senior minister of First Christian
Church, Louisiana, Mo., will officiate with the Rev. Steve Barker, senior
minister of the church in Hannibal. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park
with the Rev. Howard Goodrich, Jr. officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Week of Compassion * Walter Reed III Fund.
