Episcopal Committee seeks nominations for candidates

by Daphne Mack

[Episcopal News Service] The Joint Standing Commission on Nominations, a
permanent body of the General Convention charged with identifying persons
willing to serve on various committees, is requesting assistance to do so
for the following:

* Executive Council
* General Board of Examining Chaplains
* Trustee of the General Theological Seminary
* Trustee of the Church Pension Fund

"The committee is making every effort to reach as many Episcopalians as
possible and is encouraging self-nomination," said Canon Kathryn Weathersby,
chair of the commission. "There are people with a variety of gifts and we
are hoping to match the varied job descriptions with specific talents."

According to Weathersby, the process has been simplified and no longer
requires perspective candidates to be nominated and then sent a nomination
form. "The nomination forms are readily available for those persons desiring
to serve at http://www.episcopalchurch.org/gc/ccab.";

Details about the process including position descriptions can be found
online or by calling 800/334-7626 ext. 6325.

"The presiding officers are looking for new faces and new voices to serve
the church," said Dean George Werner, president of the House of Deputies.

Through this process a slate of candidates will be selected by the Committee
to stand for election at the 75th General Convention June 13-21, 2006 in
Columbus, Ohio.

"Each of the four areas we area nominating for are totally different and
require different skills [therefore] we encourage everyone to review the
information and offer their time and talents," said Weathersby.

Applications must be received on or before February 1, 2005.
