American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 2/27/05)--Judson Press,
of American Baptist National Ministries, has introduced two new
releases, Sound the Trumpet Again! More Messages to Empower African
American Men and More Than a Parting Prayer: Lessons in Care-giving for
the Dying.

Sound the Trumpet Again! is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed
first volume published in 2003. Editor Darryl D. Sims presents 18
sermons, from some of the country's most prominent and prolific black
pastors, that speak to critical issues facing black men today. The book
addresses such topics as the necessity of a black role model,
maintaining strength in the struggle, a call to fatherhood, having a
vision and a voice, overcoming stereotypical images, saving black boys
in America, the real dangers of the "thug life," and the crucial role of
faith.

Contributors to this "wake up call" to all concerned include: Charles G.
Adams, Johnny Ray Youngblood, Tyrone P. Jones IV, Joe S. Ratliff, Lance
Watson, J. Alfred Smith Sr., Rodney Maiden, Frank A. Thomas, Jim Holley,
Claybon Lea Jr., R.W. McKissick Jr., Harold Hudson, Robert Charles
Scott, Gordon A. Humphrey Jr., Jamal-Harrison Bryant, Frederick D.
Haynes III, Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. and Darryl D. Sims.

The book has already garnered considerable attention, and throughout
February, for Black History Month, Sims is being interviewed on a number
of radio programs nationwide.

Also newly released, More than a Parting Prayer: Lessons in Care-giving
for the Dying is a resource that can be used by anyone-layperson or
clergy-who wants to learn about what is important to those who are
dying. Through powerful and moving stories drawn from his more than 20
years of experience in chaplain ministry, author William H. Griffith
provides lessons for caregivers who walk with others through the "Valley
of the Shadow of Death."

Through Griffith's poignant stories, insight is offered on the role of
faith, grief and grieving families, faith-based denial, fear, the role
of forgiveness, working with people of different faiths, dealing with a
personal loss, emotional and spiritual pain, and other important
subjects. The book includes questions and reflections for added
guidance.

"More Than a Parting Prayer takes us to firsthand encounters with people
who remind us that death is filled with life-giving opportunities,"
notes Dr. Charles Moore, president of Northern Baptist Theological
Seminary in Lombard, Ill. "This book is a refreshing reminder that the
things that matter the most in death are the things that matter the most
in life...one's spiritual values."
