The South Asia Tsunami disaster of 26th December has passed from rescue and
relief to the reconstruction phase. Several Taiwan church-related agencies
were involved in the first stage emergency work and have opted to stay into
and through the reconstruction phase. They propose to raise and spend as
much as 330 million Taiwan Yuan (8.04 million Euros).

Taiwan¡¦s Christian Rescue Association was involved in relief with the
Indian Mission Association and the Asia Gospel Church in their work in
Ache, Indonesia, Pondicherry, India, and Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. Their
reconstruction projects include medical, orphanage, education, women¡¦s and
youth projects with occupational training in computer and fisheries
skills. Their budget is 31 million Taiwan Yuan (755,000 Euros).

World Vision/Taiwan chairman Du Ming-han said that his organization is
involved in 5 locations in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and
Myanmar in which 3,700 workers have served. Through the first stage of
post-disaster operations they were involved in providing basic comfort and
resource support. Now they will focus on home reconstruction, provision of
life tools, public health, youth education and psychological care. They
budget 300 million Taiwan Yuan (7.31 million Euros).

The Eden Social Welfare Foundation plans to centre its services on Lan-ko
Island in Thailand. In that place over half of the population supports
itself through fishing, but the Tsunami damaged all of the boats, so no one
has been able to put to sea.
