The New Face of Young Adult Ministries

With the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America, the
newly appointed National Young Adult Committee announces the "new face" of
Young Adult Ministry throughout our Archdiocese. The National Committee,
made up of two representatives from each Metropolis, convened this past
January in New York City at the Archdiocesan headquarters to continue their
work revitalizing local Young Adult Ministry chapters throughout the
Archdiocese.

Under the leadership of Anne Halkedis, the National Coordinator appointed
by the Archbishop, and the spiritual guidance of Fr. Mark A. Leondis, the
National Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries, the committee works
to set forth the vision based on the four circles of the young adult
ministry: Worship, Witness, Service, and Fellowship.

On speaking about the meeting, Fr. Mark Leondis stated, "With the blessings
of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, the National Committee has been
charged with re-energizing both the national and local ministry to our
young adults, ages 18-35. Through focusing their attention on programs such
as retreats, pilgrimages and creating resources, the National Committee has
been diligently working to achieve this goal."

The National Committee hopes to attract an active membership on the local
level interested in participating in such events, in order to accomplish
this goal. The new Young Adult Ministry web-site was launched in 2005, and
planning is in progress for three nation-wide events: a National Retreat
held at the Hellenic College/Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology
from September 23-25, 2005, a second annual Pilgrimage in October 2005, and
the 2006 National Conference in Nashville. The committee has also teamed up
with the SCOBA endorsed agency, International Orthodox Christian Charities
(IOCC), working together in order to assemble health kits for victims of
the tsunami disaster.

Please contact your parish priest or National Committee member for further
information on how you can become part of a local Young Adult Ministry
chapter, or visit our website at www.yal.org for more information.

The mission of Young Adult Ministry is to cultivate and educate our young
adults, leading them to the fullness of the Faith and likeness of God; by
utilizing the four circles of Christian living, Worship, Witness, Service
and Fellowship, young adults are integrated into the life of the Church,
enabling them to become active members of the body of Christ.
