Haipu Presbyterian Church in Kaohsiung County held a "Little Lambs Evening
of Musical Appreciation" on 26th February to display the success of its
neighborhood children¡¦s free music classes. Entire families of some of
the children were in attendance.

Six years ago the church decided to take advantage of the gifts of its many
musically members, and each Christmas offered a different sort of concert.
That became the congregation's unique calling card.

Church secretary Wu Sheng-huei said that a focus on ministry to middle and
elementary school students began last year, and out of that the Little
Lambs programme emerged. Children who are not part of the congregation or
its Sunday school began to come into the building on weekdays. Like the
Christmas programme that involves church members, the Little Lambs were to
present a concert, but theirs was scheduled around Peace and Reconciliation
day on February 28th

Ms. Wu says that since the programme has not been in operation for very
long, the church has not inserted much "gospel"¨ material into it to date.
It is mainly about opening the church space to the community and
establishing relationships, and, so far, so good.
