The World Sikh Council - America Region (WSC-AR), at the invitation of the National Conference of Black Mayors (NCBM), participated in its 31st annual national conference held in Columbus, Ohio, April 27 - May 1, 2005.

Addressing a prayer breakfast gathering of about 500 guests at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Columbus on Saturday, April 30, Dr. Tarunjit Singh, Secretary General and Chair of the National Interfaith Committee of WSC-AR, shared with the attendees the common moral code among most of the world religions - the golden rule. Dr. Singh elaborated on the Sikh golden rule of "No one is an enemy, none a stranger. I get along with all."

Dr. Singh further added, "As people of faith, sometimes some of us view people of other faiths as being in competition with us. This does not need to be so. The role of people of various faiths needs to be complimentary so that we can work together for the common good of the human family. Only through interfaith dialogue, tolerance, respect, and understanding will 'they' become 'us' and 'theirs' become 'ours'."

About 200 African American mayors from across the nation attended the conference.

Established in 1974, the NCBM is a nonpolitical and nonpartisan organization. It serves over 500 African American mayors, nationwide, who represent more than 30 million citizens. NCBM's mission is to enhance the executive management capacity of its members for the purpose of governing viable municipalities. NCBM is headquartered in East Point, GA with a Washington, DC office serving its Corporate Advisory Council.

The WSC-AR is a representative and elected body of Sikh Gurdwaras and institutions in the United States. Its members include 37 Gurdwaras (Sikh places of worship) and other Sikh institutions across the nation.
