Reported by Gu Hao-jan. Written by David Alexander

Reflecting on the flood of sexual material on the internet in Taiwan, the
local branch of End Childhood Prostitution in Asian Tourism (ECPAT) has
created a plan for the police forces of this nation¡¦s 26 counties and
cities to work together. A person needs only to become aware of an internet
contact between a sexual predator and a child to send a report to an
association volunteer.

To shorten the time it takes to bring a case of internet sexual predation
to investigation and improve the rate of conviction, ECPAT Taiwan has set
up web457, a site with links to children¡¦s safety information and
information helpful in reporting of cases of violations. It can be accessed
at www.web547.org.tw .

In addition, the association has also joined in an international movement
to ¡§Make I.T. Safe.¡¨ Association Operations Secretary Lee Le-hun said,
¡§Make I.T. Safe originated in the International ECPAT organization with
support from the Children¡¦s Charities Coalition for Internet Safety in the
UK. Taiwan joins 66 other national organizations in this effort. The focus
is to call governments of all nations to support the safety of children
using the web.¡¨
