DISCIPLES IN OKLAHOMA REBUILD CHURCH AFTER DEVASTATING STORM
Two years ago, when a tornado swept through Moore, Okla., it leveled First
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), leaving only three crosses
standing on the front lawn. But last week, a joyous service was held to
dedicate a new church building on the same site as the destroyed facility.
More than 200 people gathered at the dedication ceremony, with some
describing the event as both a rebuilding and a rebirth. Church leaders
say the new facility represents a major step in the recovery for the
community and the congregation. To read the full story on First Christian
Church's dedication, go to: http://www.disasternews.net/news/news.php?articleid=2632

PENTECOST SPECIAL OFFERING RECEIVED MAY 8 AND 15
As the Pentecost Special Offering approaches, take a moment to reflect on
its theme "One Body, Many Parts" based on 1 Corinthians 12:12-26. The
purpose of this offering is to explore God's expectations of us in
supporting the newest parts of Christ's body. In order to continue to
develop and support new churches, we need the help of each and every one
of you. So please give generously to the Pentecost Special Offering on
May 8 and May 15. For Pentecost worship resources, go to: http://www.churchfinancecouncil.org/pages/dmf/pentecost05/p_worship.htm

YOUR QUILTS ARE REQUESTED AT GENERAL ASSEMBLY
In an attempt to have 100 percent participation in mission work at General
Assembly in Portland, Ore., in July, Disciples Home Missions (DHM) has
adopted the idea of Quilts of Hope. Quilts of Hope has been established
in an effort to provide quilts for people in need of warmth and hope, such
as the homeless, battered women or ex-prisoners being reintegrated into
the community.

DHM is asking that congregations make a quilt that is ready to be tied and
bring it to the Assembly. After the quilt has been tied, the quilt will
be returned to you to take home, finish and give to the organization of
your church's choice. Or you can leave your quilt in Portland and it will
be finished and taken to a shelter there. Donations of crochet thread and
large needles to help with the knotting process are appreciated. Make
sure that your church does not miss out on this wonderful opportunity to
participate in a service project that may make someone else's life a
little more hopeful. For more information on Quilts of Hope, go to:

WORLD MISSION CONFERENCE TO BE BROADCAST LIVE ON THE INTERNET
The Conference on World Mission and Evangelism will gather May 9 -16 in
Athens, Greece around the theme "Come, Holy Spirit, Heal and Reconcile".
This conference will offer a unique opportunity for Christians from all
continents and the largest confessional families to exchange experiences
and to reflect on the priorities for mission and the future of Christian
witness. However, this is not the only unique opportunity that this
gathering will offer.

On May 10, 500 delegates from around the world will meet in Athens for the
opening session of the first world mission conference of the 21st century.
For the first time, all plenary sessions of a world mission conference
will be broadcast live on the Internet. Interactive video and chat
discussion groups following each plenary session will give people from
around the world the opportunity to engage in dialogue on healing and
reconciliation.

A detailed schedule of the web casts and web conferences is available on
the world mission conference website: http://www.mission2005.org

Q: WHAT IS HELM'S GREAT DISCIPLES LEADERSHIP QUIZ?
A: The most memorable dinner event at the Portland General Assembly.
You don't need to pull an all-nighter to get ready for HELM's trivia
contest, set for Monday, July 25 at the Oregon Convention Center during
General Assembly. In the great St. Louis tradition of "trivia night"
fund-raisers for local charities, HELM is planning its own event with a
test on Disciples leaders of the past as well as an opportunity to meet
Disciples leaders of the here and now. If you win, you'll get prizes. If
you lose, you'll get "HELM: The Home Game." (Well, not really, but you'll
probably learn something, and that's always valuable.) Tickets are
available for only $20, visit http://www.helmdisciples.org/ga05.
