ABCUSA: Elva Stokes Riggins Dies

American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 5/12/05)--Elva L.
Stokes Riggins, mother of the Rev. Dr. Aidsand F. Wright-Riggins III,
executive director of National Ministries, died Tuesday after a lengthy
illness.

Mrs. Riggins, born in 1921 in Muskogee, Okla., received a bachelor's
degree in education and was one of a handful of pioneering Black
teachers to integrate an all-white school district in Los Angeles. She
had been a member of a number of California congregations, including
Tabernacle of Faith Baptist Church and Macedonia Baptist Church, Los
Angeles, where she remained active until her illness.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, at Tabernacle of
Faith Baptist Church, 11328 S. Central Ave., Los Angeles, Calif.
Visitation and public viewing are planned for Sunday, May 15, from 1:30
p.m. to 8 p.m. at the House of Winston Mortuary, 9501 South Vermont
Ave., Los Angeles, Calif.

Cards and other remembrances may be sent to Dr. Aidsand F.
Wright-Riggins III and his family at 158 Stine Dr., Collegeville, PA
19426. Condolences in care of the family may also be sent to Margaret
Mitchell, 1320 S. Sloan, Compton, CA 90221.
