Dear Worldwide Faith News Subscriber,

It is birthday time - you can help us celebrate.

WFN rarely emails directly to those who subscribe to the WFN-News mailing
list!

This is one of those times. WFN is celebrating the 10th anniversary of opening on the Internet in 1995. Most historians date the Internet to that year. WFN was there at the beginning.

We are inviting you to send greetings, comments, and suggestions which will be shared with the WFN Steering Committee and faith organizations using Worldwide Faith News. Your comments may also help WFN seek foundation and other resources for grants to evolve WFN services. As always, WFN services remain free to any Internet user.

The email for your responses - and we hope to hear from you - is the same as used for this email, wfn@wfn.org

There are several pages of WFN history information at http://www.wfn.org/about.shtml

Planning for WFN began in the early 1990's when a group of Protestant denominations asked the National Council of Churches, USA to explore a common religion news site as a resource for journalists, researchers and the public. Realization of that dream had to wait for the development of graphical Internet web browsers about 1994-95. During the summer and fall of 1995 WFN was designed and tested. It "went live" December 24, 1995. At the beginning it was decided to look beyond the starting group and invite the widest range of global and national faith groups to participate.

In the last decade nearly 30,000 official news releases have been added to the WFN archive data base. From the very beginning an every word search of the data base has been possible. The software underlying WFN has been changed several times, as have Internet service providers. Each change has made WFN faster and more accessible.

The well known search engine Google has ranked WFN as the #2 religion news web site in the world. The BBC's religion news service is ranked first. Millions of visitors reach the WFN web site each year, often refereed by search engines such as Yahhoo and Google.

WFN serves the news departments/offices of world and national faith groups. It is not restricted to the founding groups. Protestant, Catholic, Jewish and other faith organizations have posted releases over the last decade. The releases are not edited in any way, WFN automatically processes and posts releases exactly as received.

We hope to hear from you. How do you use WFN? Where are you - a city or country name is enough? The email address you use to reply will not be disclosed to others. WFN has never been involved in spam.
