LATEST COPY OF THE DESIGN IS NOW AVAILABLE
Major revisions were made to The Design of the church at the 2005 General
Assembly in July in Portland, Ore. Copies of the finalized Design document
are now available. If you would like to order a printed copy of The
Design, contact Mary Collins in the Office of General Minister and
President at mcollins@ogmp.disciples.org. A $3 charge will be added for
shipping and handling. Starting on Monday, Oct. 10, you also will be view
the document and download it at no cost from the homepage of the http://www.disciples.org/ website.

THE 2005 YEAR BOOK AND DIRECTORY IS BEING MAILED!
Copies of the 2005 Year Book and Directory for the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ) are on their way to congregations and individuals.
The books are a valuable resource that contains the most up-to-date
statistics and reports of the church. Inside this year's book you will
find a list of congregations by region, information on congregations in
formation, congregations with the most reported baptisms and additions,
and Disciples Mission Fund contributions, among other data. The Year Book
also contains a ministers directory and information about the church's
General Units. This year's cover design features artwork currently
displayed in the Disciples Center that was designed by Patia Rarick, of

RECONCILING THE CHURCH'S WITNESS THROUGH MISSION TRIPS
T. Eugene Fisher, Minister of Reconciliation for Reconciliation Mission,

one predominately African-American and the other predominately white -
learned when they worked together on a mission trip to Appalachia. To

DHM WOULD LIKE TO HEAR YOUR STORIES ABOUT THE GULF COAST HURRICANES

DISCIPLES SUPPORT CWS PROGRAM FOR DISPLACED HURRICANE SURVIVORS
Disciples and other denominations who work with Church World Service's
(CWS) Immigration and Refugee Program (IRP) are stepping forward with
special funding for a new program of assistance to help hurricane evacuees
become self-sufficient in their new communities. CWS, an ecumenical
emergency response, development, and refugee assistance agency, is
providing comprehensive services to those in 10 states - whether their
stay is short or long-term. Services include helping people find jobs,
health care, and affordable housing, as well as getting their children

LYNCHBURG COLLEGE SUPPORTS HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORTS
Like many Disciples institutions and organizations, Lynchburg College is
doing its part to assist persons impacted by the recent hurricanes in the
Gulf Coast area. In addition to a number of other outreach activities, the
college, based in Lynchburg, Va., has enrolled three undergraduate
students tuition-free for the fall semester. The students were displaced
from Tulane and Loyola Universities in New Orleans, La. In order to
expedite the process, the three students were able to enroll through a

DISCIPLESWORLD EDITOR TO SPEAK AT EUREKA COLLEGE
Verity A. Jones, publisher and editor of "DisciplesWorld" magazine, a
journal of news, opinion and mission for the Christian Church (Disciples
of Christ), will give the E. Royal F. Humbert Lecture at 7:30 p.m. on Nov.
3 in the Cerf College Center at Eureka College, Eureka, Ill. Her topic
will be "O Death Where is Thy Sting? Christology and Capital Punishment."

Jones, a life-long Disciple and former minister at Central Christian
Church in Terre Haute, Ind., has written articles for "Biblical Preaching
Journal," "Christian Century," "Journal of Preaching," and other publications. She holds a bachelor's degree in humanities from Yale College and a
master of divinity from Yale Divinity School. For additional information

STEP UP AND LEAD THE STUDENT ECUMENICAL PARTNERSHIP

CELBRATE DISCIPLES HERITAGE SUNDAY ON OCTOBER 23
Disciples congregations will celebrate their history and honor their past
on Sunday, Oct. 23. Heritage Sunday is a special day of recognition,
celebration and worship that invites all Disciples to gather together to
reflect on the past and look ahead to the future and what it means to be a
Disciple. The day also gives special recognition to the lives of
Disciples who have played an integral role in the community, and sheds
light on how and where God is leading Disciples. Utilize Christian Board

DISCIPLES MINISTER CALLED TO SERVE AS DEAN AT NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
Northwest Christian College (NCC) in Eugene, Ore., recently announced the
appointment of Dennis Lindsay as Vice President for Academic Affairs and
Dean of the Faculty. Lindsay has been on the faculty of NCC since
September of 2000 and has taught classes in the Biblical Studies and
Christian Ministries Program. Before coming to NCC, Lindsay was College
Principal and Bible Lecturer at Springdale College in Birmingham, England.

Lindsay is an ordained minister and holds a bachelor's degree from Lincoln
Christian College, Lincoln, Ill., master's degrees from Lincoln Christian
Seminary and University of Illinois, and a doctor of theology from
Eberhard-Karls Universitat, Tubingen, Germany. He currently serves as an
elder and choir member in his local congregation and is often invited to
be a guest preacher in the Eugene area. Northwest Christian College is
historically related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
