The National Council of Churches of Taiwan (NCCT) met recently. Fifty-one representatives of its 16 member churches and para-church agencies gathered at Wesley Gospel Center on Yangminshan for a scheduled assembly. Prominent on the agenda was work surrounding the Council¡¦s hosting of the Joint Programme Area Committee of the Christian Conference of Asia from several 3rd to 10th March.
The Assembly opened with worship led by Rev. Lim Eng-kiu. The sermon was delivered by Rev. William J. K. Lo on the topic "Justice, Peace and Joy in the Kingdom of God."
Rev. Lin lifted up the ideals of whole person, church mission, church unity, social justice, and relief of the poor in his prayers. The worship atmosphere was solemn. It concluded when Bishop Lai Rong-hsin, of the Taiwan Episcopal Diocese, gave the blessing.
The meeting reviewed activities of the NCCT in 2005 and made plans for 2006. It also amended some bylaws and procedural rules. Significant among these was the requirement for a three-fourths majority to allow any motion to pass. This is seen to respect the rights of smaller churches and agencies who participate in the council¡¦s deliberations and activities.
Rev. Lin said that the council's most important project in 2006 will be hosting the CCA¡¦s meeting from March 3-7 and follow-up visits lasting until the 10th. This meeting will include 60 persons from 14 Asian nations. He asks all members of NCCT participating churches and agencies to be in prayer for the activity, that Taiwan and its Christians might make a good impression on the guests and testify to the glory of God.
