Site offers online resources for youth, young adult workers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) - Youth and young adult workers now have a place on the Internet to find United Methodist resources to help them in their ministry.
The Resource Hub is an online database created by the Division on Ministries with Young People at the United Methodist Board of Discipleship. It includes more than 500 resources gathered from the general agencies of the church, said the Rev. Micki McCorkle, director of leadership development with adults who work with young people.
"People have been asking for one place they could go and find resources from the church to help them with their ministry," she said. Currently, the database only contains United Methodist resources, but plans for the future include adding material from other denominations.
"Youth curriculum, devotional books, Bible studies and teaching resources on how to start or organize a youth ministry are some of the items you can find on the Hub," McCorkle said.
The Division on Ministries with Young People is using technology to stay in touch with the global community. Some of its other projects include establishing virtual networks for youth, young adults and adult workers.
"We're looking for people who want to be part of a global community of people sharing their spiritual journey," said Julie O'Neal, a director with the division. "Anyone may join - it's not just United Methodists."
The division is also working on having original music written and performed by young people and/or adult workers, as well as devotional podcasts. The MP3 downloads are a way for people to do devotions and meditation at times convenient for them.
"They can just put it on their iPods and go and listen to devotions whenever they have time, whether they are in their car or in the park between classes," McCorkle said.
"We are very excited with the opportunities that technology offers us to reach out," she said. The division would also like feedback on the resources.
