A one-day seminar organized by the MECC Women¹s Program on March 10, 2006, in Cairo, Egypt aimed at promoting and disseminating the culture of peace, and highlighting the role of women as peacemakers. 120 participants, Christians and Muslims, women and men, heard about the concept of peace in Christianity and Islam, peace versus fundamentalism, the latter ultimately leading to violence. Violence in family life and women and children¹s right s in the Egyptian civil law were also discussed.
Participants recommended that the documents presented at the seminar be published and the issue be followed up through other similar seminars. In his opening word, MECC General Secretary underlined the role of women, as mothers, wives, daughters and sisters, the educators who raise and propagat e principles and values of love, and who build communities and societies. ³Peace², said Mr. Saleh, ³is a way of life, with God, the others and oneself².
