Toward Columbus: Millennium Development Goals, poverty eradication high on Convention's agenda

[ENS] Five resolutions affirming the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will be presented to legislative committees of the Episcopal Church's 75th General Convention at its June 13-21 meeting in Columbus, Ohio.
The proposed legislation will call on the Episcopal Church to make the MDGs a mission priority for the coming triennium and ask that all dioceses and parishes commit 0.7 percent of their annual budgets for the realization of the goals.

Toward Columbus: Peace in Israel/Palestine is focus of five General Convention resolutions

[ENS] Israel and Palestine are the focus of at least five resolutions to be presented to legislative committees of the Episcopal Church's 75th General Convention when it meets in Columbus, Ohio, June 13-21.
Offering recommendations on the peace process, investments in Palestine, and interfaith dialogue and prayers for the Holy Land, the proposed resolutions would endorse the Episcopal Church's commitment to issues of peace and justice in the region and build on its partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem and the Middle East.

Toward Columbus: HIV/AIDS issues, training to be taken up by Convention

[ENS] Eliminating the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS and providing appropriate training about the pandemic will be addressed in six resolutions to be presented to legislative committees at the Episcopal Church's 75th General Convention when it meets in Columbus, Ohio, June 13-21.
Resolutions A107 and A131 will ask General Convention to affirm and authorize the continuing work of the Standing Committee on HIV/AIDS for the 2007-2009 triennium, asking that it "focus on mechanisms for increasing HIV/AIDS awareness in our Church, reducing the effects of stigmatization by HIV/AIDS and continue the process of identifying those whom we are called to serve but may overlook."
